Farm Worker

Job description

Job Description: The worker will perform job duties assigned by the supervisor. They will vary from time to time depending on crop ripening and weather. The harvesting and packing of said crops are temporary and will last from February to Dcember

• Manually load and unload crops or containers of materials or use conveyors, hand trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers.
• Mix specified materials or chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery. Observe and listen to machinery operations to detect equipment malfunctions.
• Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust machinery mechanisms. Operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, and irrigation equipment.
• Adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions.
• Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools.
• Load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks.
• Participate in planting, weeding, or harvesting activities. Operate towed machines such as seed drills or manure spreaders to plant, fertilize, dust, and spray crops.
• Drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers.
• Drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, harvest and store grain crops.
• Attach farm implements, such as plow, disc, and drill, to the tractor.
• Till soil, plant and cultivate grain. Tow harvesting equipment.
• Drive and operate self-propelled combine.
Physical Requirements:
Workers at may be required to handle products weighing up to 75 pounds and lift to a height of 5 feet. The job involves working on their feet in bent positions for long periods, repetitive movements, and extensive walking, stooping, and bending over. Work is required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity, and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range from 10 to over 100 degrees F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's job.
