Job description
General Farm Labor: Workers will walk along rows as specified by the employer and remove weeds and grass from fields by hand or using a hoe. Workers do not load packed final products onto trucks for shipment. Cultivate and hand-harvest harvest sweet potatoes. Load and unload sweet potato. May construct trellises, repair fences and farm buildings, or participate in irrigation activities prolonged walking, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. The job is outdoors and continues in all types of weather. Workers may be requested to submit to random drug or alcohol tests at no cost to the worker. Failure to comply with the request or testing positive may result in immediate termination. All testing will occur post-hire and is not a part of the interview process. A negative result may be required post-hire and before commencing work. Must be able to lift 75 lbs. to shoulder height repetitively throughout the workday and able to lift and carry 75 lbs. in the field. Must not hinder another worker's productivity. Use of a personal cell phone or another personal electronic device during working hours is strictly prohibited except for work-related calls or emergencies, and violation may result in immediate termination. Though not a hiring requirement, if a worker drives a company vehicle during the period of employment, then at the time of operating the company vehicle, the driver must possess a valid driver's license issued by a U.S. state or foreign equivalent and operate the company vehicle in accordance with the license restrictions and vehicle classifications applicable to that license. Requires one month of verifiable prior farmworker experience in the crop activities listed.
Shuttle Driver, Chauffeur + Team Leader. Operate a bus over the road to transport farm workers on a planned or scheduled basis as directed by the employer or supervisor. Driver may pick up workers from different housing sites or pick up points and take them to assigned work site, transit between work sites, and return workers back to the housing site or pick up point at the end of the work day. Make trips to grocery stores, bank, laundromat, bus station, airport, and governmental agencies, medical and dental offices, and so forth. Must abide by precise instructions and strict but necessary safety rules and policies. Inspect vehicles and check gas, oil, and water levels prior to departure. Maintain cleanliness of vehicle. Handle passenger emergencies or disruptions. Make minor repairs to vehicle and change tires. Employer assures that driver will be paid the offered wage rate for actual driving time, including but not limited to trips to fuel vehicle and time spent maintaining the vehicle. When not engaged in daily transportation duties, bus drivers will direct and monitor the work of casual and seasonal help during planting and harvesting, and report issues to the farm manager or supervisor and drive field buses in the field and to the unloading site on and off the road. Workers may be requested to submit to random drug or alcohol tests at no cost to the worker. Failure to comply with the request or testing positive may result in immediate termination. Use of cell phone or other personal electronic device while driving strictly prohibited by law and violation may result in immediate termination. Must commit to entire anticipated period of employment. Must be properly licensed by a U.S. state or foreign equivalent with passenger endorsement and medical certificate to operate bus. hold a CDL License Class A, or B and Must obtain a DOT medical examiner’s certificate before commencing work. Requires 12 months CDL driving history.
Special Requirements
Workers may be required to perform work that is incidental to farming the crops listed in the application. All other duties, if any are assigned, will be those duties of Farm Worker, Diversified Crops, DOT code 407.687-010. This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated.
