Job description

All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A.3 & A.4. Workers are needed to plant, maintain, and harvest various culinary and medicinal herbs. Workers will perform field work and greenhouse work including planting and sowing seeds, transplanting, weeding, thinning, hoeing, and other tasks required in the planting, maintaining, and harvesting of various herb crops. Workers will sort, wash, pack, and otherwise prepare various crops for storage and shipping and will clean and sanitize work areas, tools, and equipment. Workers will perform other farm-related duties including but not limited to the following: load and unload trucks and other farm vehicles; set up and operate irrigation equipment; operate small farm machinery and as needed, larger agricultural equipment; and cut brush and other vegetation in and around fields, buildings, and equipment. Workers may operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmers’ fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Workers that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers who do drive will still perform the same field work and other duties as non-driving workers; driving is not a primary duty. Workers will be compensated at the correct rate of pay for all hours worked, including when they are performing the employer’s obligation of driving. Work is physically demanding and requires workers to stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods of time and to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Workers must be able to work in various extreme weather conditions, from damp and cold spring and fall days to hot and humid summer days. Workers must be available to work 8-hour shifts within the hours of 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM from Monday to Friday, and should also be available to work on Saturdays, if needed. Daily beginning and ending times may vary depending on weather, crop, and other conditions. Workers get a 1-hour lunch break which is staggered between 11am to 1pm as decided by the workers. Workers return to the worksite after their 1-hour is up. The employer will furnish to workers, without cost, all tools and equipment required to perform assigned duties. Workers must be able to take direction in simple English.
