Job description

All animal waste generating in our hog operation is utilized as organic fertilizer for our corn production operation. The manure generated throughout the year is applied to crop fields twice a year according to strict application and utilization plans. In the spring, application occurs in late March through June before the corn is planted. Additional seasonal help is needed for this labor-intensive part of our production cycle. Laborers are responsible for preparing, maintaining, cleaning, and operating all machinery and equipment used for the handling of the manure. Liquid slurry manure is pumped into tanker applicators to be applied directly to crop fields or is pumped through an umbilical hose system utilizing pumps, tractors, and hoses to move the manure to the crop fields. Equipment to be operated/driven from farms/fields owned or operated by the employer to farms/fields owned or operated by the employer may include ATV, pickup, truck, semi-truck hauling manure tanks, or tractor. Washing and disinfecting at the facilities where manure is removed may also be completed.

Additionally, our farm utilizes seasonal help throughout spring planting. Employees may assist with all aspects of corn production. Specifically, workers would assist with planting corn from April until June. Job duties may include operating rock picking machines to remove rocks from the corn fields, operating tractors, pickups, semi-trucks, and other farm equipment on employer owned farm. Other duties may include planting corn, repairing soil erosion problems on the field, installing field tile, seeding and maintaining grass waterways, maintaining and cleaning farm equipment, and hauling agricultural commodities from one location on the farm to another location on the farm as needed throughout the spring. Equipment operated may include: tractors, pickups, semi-trucks, tractors, and other farm equipment. See addendum to ETA 790 for additional information and details.
