Job description

Shifts are 8 hours per day (7:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday), and 5 hours on Saturday (7:00am-1:00pm), with a one-hour unpaid lunch. Workers will perform duties related to planting, cultivating, and harvesting, sugarcane and soybeans by hand or machine; till soil; transplant and weed crops; clean grain bins; haul soybeans to elevator; set up trellises; For the majority of the workdays in the contract period and occasionally repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, mechanical equipment, fences and farm buildings; set up and operate irrigation equipment; clear and maintain irrigation ditches; plow, harrow and fertilize soil, spray pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers; identify plants, pests and weeds; record information about crops, such as yields or costs; inform farmer or farm managers of crop progress. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Required to work outside in extremely hot, cold, and/or wet weather. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. All tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the duties assigned are provided to the worker, without charge or deposit. Hours may fluctuate due to weather conditions or mechanical breakdowns but will not reduce the 3/4 guarantee over the life of the contract. Possibility of work breakdown will not reduce workers guarantee over the life of the contract.

Special Requirements

Housing is provided subject to allowable deduction. The job opportunity is subject to the applicable H-2A adverse compensation adjustment of -$1.35. Workers who have a valid driver's license and doctor's certificate may drive transportation vehicles on farm property, and may be offered additional hours. Once hired, workers may be required to take a random drug test (at no cost to the worker), as part of fitness for duty and workers safety. Drug testing relates to safety assurance in the farm equipment environment. Testing positive or failure to comply with the random drug testing may result in immediate termination from employment.
