Job description
Gen worker for corn, cattle, hay, pasture, rice, ryegrass, soybean, and sugarcane farm. Field prep includes
operating farm equip, tractor drawn machinery and self propelled machinery, used to plow, till, harrow, apply fertilizer, herbicides
and pesticides to crops, plant, cultivate and harvest of crops by hand or machine, drive combines, tractors/rice carts to cut/haul
rice to bins for drying, clean, shovel/level rice bins, manual shovel work/hoeing of weeds, spot spray treatments, water
maintenance, and gen farm labor. Load and unload. Cut sugarcane with machetes into segments, load wagons with sugarcane
stalks. May work in groups to hand plant sugarcane in furrows while walking/following moving wagon. Workers must reach and
pull to remove precut stalks from trailer, while bending and/or stooping, place, straighten and plant sugarcane pieces. Pickup
dropped sugarcane in fields. Cleaning drains with shovel, walk fields, check for standing water, manually plant, cultivate,
transplant and harvest as required. Use of hand tools such as machetes, hoes, knives, shovels, tampers, and trowels. Clean and
load harvested crops, unload trucks, haul to bins, dryer or mill. In September once cane harvest begins work schedule may be
adjusted, as assigned by the mill, May operate motorized crawfish boat and/or walk/push boat. Crawfishing involves manually
cutting up of fish bait, set traps, bait, check traps. Grade, may purge, wash, sack, and ice crawfish for shipment, make and repair
traps as needed. Pickup/deliver crawfish as required. May deliver crop to coolers/market. Manually clean and repair fence.
Hauling/feeding/hay, assist in calving, clean stalls, water/feed, assist with gates, count heads/brand. Help repair/maintain barn,
bins, (climb 6-50 ft ladders) buildings, cattle, corrals, equip, all farm, mechanical and vehicles (and change oil, filters, and gas),
farm, fences, fields, irrigation, levees, pastures, ponds, properties, roads, shed, shop, and water troughs. Worker must be able to
lift/carry 70 lbs. M-F, some Sat/Sun, work in excess of 40 hours may vary. Employees may be compensated above the stated
hourly wage, this decision to pay above the prevailing hourly wage will be made by the employer, basing this decision on factors
that include the individual recipient's performance/work history. Allergies to ragweed/goldenrod/insect spray/related
chemicals/pesticides, etc. may affect workers’ ability to perform the job. Employer may require post hire/random/upon
suspicion/or post-accident drug testing, all at no cost to employee. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate
term from employment. Job includes stooping, lifting/working outside in inclement weather. Must have 3 mo exp in similar
position.
