Job description

Will prune, plant, cultivate, irrigate, fertilize, harvest and sort crops, while working outside in all types of weather. Must be able to use hand tools such as: shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears and knives. The employer, at no cost, will provide any tools or equipment necessary to perform required tasks to the worker. Duties may include tilling soil, transplanting, weeding, mulching, applying and removing row covers, thinning, or pruning crops; cleaning, packing, and loading harvested products. Place vegetables into field containers. All work must be performed carefully according to instructions to avoid damage or harm to crops. May construct trellises, repair fences and farm buildings, participate in irrigation activities and other farm related activities. Tasks will be related to a diverse variety of fruit and vegetable crops. As crops are harvested, workers may be assigned to wash, sort, grade, package and label fruit/veg crops according to size, shape and degree of maturity. In addition to field operation tasks, duties may include: Managing inventory of stored produce; manage customer order process and maintain fulfillment records. Track and report the completion of daily farm tasks and inventory of production supplies to the manager. Assist at farmers markets and fill CSA customer order boxes.
Must be able to work outdoors in dusty and dirty conditions, in extremes of heat and cold and in inclement weather. Must be able to crouch, bend, and sit on the ground, and lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to listen to, understand and follow simple instructions of field leaders and supervisor. Preference will be offered to applicants with an
intermediate or limited working proficiency of the English language. Applicants should be able to handle basic work commands, participate in casual conversations, and discuss familiar topics, but might still need help with complex terminology, nuanced phrasing, or extensive conversations.
This job requires three months (or 480 hours) of verifiable prior experience. The employer will comply with re-entry restrictions applicable to pesticides and other chemicals used in the fields.
Workers may not report for work while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol (exception is made for moderate alcohol consumption in company housing during non-working hours) on company property is prohibited and will be cause for termination.

Special Requirements

During busy planting/harvest season workers may be requested to start earlier and work more than the scheduled 40 hours per week, including holidays. When weather is hot, start and end times may be shifted to earlier or later in the day, depending on crop and weather conditions.
To ensure availability of workers 7 days a week there will be 3 different work crew schedules. Work crews will be assigned to work 7 am - 3 pm either Mon-Fri, Sun-Thurs, or Sat to Wed.
