Job description
Skill Level I. Forage: Duties to include, but not limited to: Soil preparation, operating tillage equipment, cutting equipment. Attach farm implements such as disc mower, tether, hay rake, and hay baler to tractor to cut, rake and roll hay. Operate tractor to move hay bales to wrapper and/or hoop barns for storage. Assist with livestock operation for cattle and sheep during calving season, duties may include, but limited to, feeding, assisting in birthing, tagging, vaccinations, moving from paddock to paddock, sorting and manure removal. Greenhouse; all activities in preparing greenhouse/hoop house for seeding & plant maintenance, soil preparations, plant bed preparation, transplant activities associated with vegetables/fruits plant production in greenhouse, hoop house as well as in the fields. Care must be taking during transplanting as plants are tender and subject to break. Workers will insure temperature is controlled for optimal for plant growth and plants are watered as needed. Planting, Cultivating, & Harvesting Vegetables/Fruits: Duties to include, but not limited to: Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to plow, disc fields to prepare for planting. Lay plastic, set plants, fertilize, manage irrigation, weeding with hoe by hand, driving stakes, cultivate, harvest, grading / sort & pack vegetables in boxes, all activities associated with fruit and vegetable production. Care needs to be taken during these activities to insure fruits and vegetables are not bruised during planting, cultivating, harvesting as well as grading/sorting and packing to prevent crop loss. During summer month irrigate crops as needed. Cleaning greenhouse, replace plastic on greenhouse as needed. Alternative Work; General farm maintenance and other duties as required in the farming operation maintenance. Includes variety of other duties such as lubricating and maintenance of farm machinery, bush hogging fields, repairing barns, draining fields, removing plastic from fields, cleaning fields after harvest. Maintenance of tools & equipment, and other work as directly related to the crop activities for which the worker is hired. Also includes fixing and clearing fences to ensure cattle do not trespass on neighboring fields and crop or onto highways. Such work will be offered when climate or crop conditions preclude working in the primary activities listed above. Worker may be required to work in fields when crops are wet with dew / rain and should have suitable clothing for conditions which include light rain and temperatures ranging from 30 degrees to more than 100 degrees. Workers should be able to stand, bend, stoop and work for prolonged periods of time and be physically fit to perform duties as assigned. Care must be exercised with use of all equipment to prevent injury self and other workers.
Special Requirements
The employer will train the workers for a period of two day after which the worker will be expected to work without constant supervision.
Tools and Equipment:
The employer will furnish, without charge, all tools, supplies, and equipment required in the performance of the specified work. Workers will be charged for any willful damage or loss of such tools, equipment and housing.
Operating motor vehicles or farm machinery under the influence of drug or alcohol is illegal and prohibited by law. Operating tools and
equipment as applicable and noted in the job description while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is dangerous and noted in operator
manuals-Do Not Operate under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol. Workmans' Comp. Insurance as well as vehicle insurance companies require safety compliance. Poor judgement, improper driving, etc can result in serious and fatal accidents.
