Job description

Strawberry harvesting, crop care, plant management, weeding, thinning, cutting runners, cutting dead fruit stems, cleaning the top of the beds of any dead leaves, old fruit, or dead plant material, soil preparation, planting. Sort fruit according to size, color, shape and degree of maturity; keep count of harvested and loaded crops, ensuring accuracy of all counts, record keeping, overages, shortages, errors. May used a handheld knife and/or a cannery ring. Ground crew. Tractor driving and irrigation assistance may be offered. Because there is no readily available, reasonable alternative means of performing the work that is suitable and appropriate to the production of the berries, they must be weeded and thinned by hand. The employer attests that any hand-weeding and thinning work will be performed in compliance with 8 Cal Code Regulation Section 3437, 3456(b-c). Workers will be provided with gloves and kneeling pads to perform these job duties.

Special Requirements

We require two (2) months of recent and verifiable experience within the past two (2) years for the job duties listed. This position requires a minimum of two (2) months for the employee to get a full understanding of the job and responsibilities. Must be able to understand work & safety instructions in English or Spanish, the languages spoken and written in the workplace. All work must be performed in a manner that exhibits Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and the utmost food safety at all times. Candidates must be able to visually distinguish the colors of strawberries to ensure proper harvesting; therefore, color blindness will disqualify candidates.
