Job description

Crops: Tomatoes, Peppers, Pickles, Cucumbers and Squash.

Workers will work in irrigation (setting up, repairing and taking apart), Tractor Operation, Pruning and staking. Workers will clear fields including pickup up plastic mulch, removing stakes and twine. Workers will sort product, running product through sorting belt, packing product and prepare product for shipment. Workers will load and unload product. Workers will pick and pack product in the field. They will perform cleaning duties, including cleaning of the sorting belt, the warehouse that will include dispose of trash, sweeping and washing floors. Pressure washing walls and cooler, and hose down the cooler and other general maintenance for the warehouse.

Hand held tools: workers will use a variety of hand held tools such as knives, hoes, shovels, and other equipment that may cause injuries. Workers are required to take care and use good agricultural practices to ensure their safety and the safety of fellow workers. Workers are not to engage in horseplay at any time.

Workers are expected to begin work early in the mornings except with picking tomatoes. If it is necessary for workers to work in the rain, the employer will provide works, without cost to them, appropriate rain gear. Workers should not have allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, pesticide sprays residues or related chemicals.

Farm, and Field Sanitation: All workers will be responsible for picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors and other farm and warehouse sanitation duties. Workers will pressure wash walls, cooler and other areas as needed.

Farm Equipment Operation During Field Operations: Workers may be required to operate tractors and other farm equipment during field operations as an incidental activity in the production of crops. Before any worker is required to operate any farm equipment, the worker will be instructed in the proper and safe operation of tractor. Workers will be required to operate tractors according to instructions and in a manner, that protects the operator, other workers, trees, crops and equipment. Repeated failure to obey operating and safety instructions may result in termination. Properly licensed workers will drive employers vehicles on public roads.

General Maintenance: Workers will be responsible for performing general maintenance around the warehouse.

During certain duties, workers may be required to work in teams to accomplish a certain task. When engage in teamwork activities workers must coordinate with other members of the team to accomplish the task.

Employer retains the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malinger, or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but does not demonstrate the willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product.

GENERAL CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL CROPS: Fieldwork begins at assigned time shortly after daylight. Work is performed during light rain and in high humidity and in temperatures ranging from 100 (+) degrees to below 35 degrees F. Workers will work on their feet in bent position for long periods of time. Workers can and will lift 75 lbs. during the workday. Workers will supply their own work clothes. All the tasks in this Job Description constitute one (1) job; the employer may assign workers to different tasks on any day or to multiple tasks during the same day in the sole judgment of the employer. Workers may be required to perform work, on the farm, that is incidental to farming the crops listed in the application, such as performing hand cultivation tasks, weeding or hoeing, cleaning and repairing farm buildings, seed beds, racks, grounds, operate tractor/farm equipment incidental crop set up and move irrigation pipes and equipment, gardening, weeding and shrubbing, etc. Workers may also perform duties associated with assisting is food prep and sanitation.

Special Requirements

All applicants must have at least 2 months experience hand harvesting a perishable crop. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing post-hire at no cost to the employee. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
