Job description
Farm Equipment Operator: Worker to complete the following activities as directed by supervisor: prepare farm equipment for field work and harvesting, prepare soil for crop planting using tillage equipment such as discs, high speed discs, cultivators, in-line rippers, and chisel plows; operate farm machinery such as forklifts, tractors, mowers, cherry shakers, and trucks for harvest, haul crops including apples, asparagus, blueberries, cherries, grapes, peaches, and pears; complete daily safety inspections and perform routine general repairs and maintenance of farm equipment; Drive Employer-provided vehicle to and from the worksite and to locations within 30 miles; complete maintenance activities on field, orchard, farm building and area, tractor vehicle and farm equipment.
Oversee field workers to ensure quality performance for fruit tree thinning and fruit/vegetable hand harvest; scan workers ID badge; maintain count/weight records.
Assist with hydrocooling asparagus, sorting, grading, packaging employer-grown asparagus to quality standards and storing into cold-storage or refrigerated semi-trucks.
Other duties assigned under this order will be consistent under Bureau of Labor Statistics Standard Occupational Classification: Agricultural Equipment Operators (45–2091)
Special Requirements
Experience Requirement: 3 month(s) verifiable experience in commercial agriculture driving farm tractors of minimum 80 horsepower required. Applicants must furnish job references from employers of the last 3 years establishing acceptable prior experience.
Job requires worker to complete tasks in farm equipment operation, general farm labor, hand harvest of apples, asparagus, blueberries, cherries, grapes, peaches and pears, and asparagus packing. Employer will provide instructions and training on specific job duties.
Season Commitment: Job offered requires worker be available for work for entire employment period.
Work Rule Violations: Worker may be disciplined and/or terminated for cause for violating work rules provided at orientation.
Drug testing done at employers expense and not utilized as pre-employment tool.
