Job description

Perform manual labor to harvest Vidalia onions and cucumbers and plant, harvest, and pack watermelons. Use hand tools such as shears and knives. Pull weeds. Harvest onions by pulling from the ground, snipping off the tops and depositing into bucket to be loaded into a bin. Harvest watermelons and cucumbers and place in proper containers. Clean, pack, and load harvested watermelon. Grade and sort watermelon according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel, and quality to ensure correct processing and usage. Discard inferior or defective products and/or foreign matter and place acceptable products in containers for further processing. Weigh products or estimate their weight visually or by feel. Place products in containers according to grade and mark grades on containers. Measure, weigh, and count products and materials. Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure that packing specifications are met. Clean work areas using hand tools. Pull weeds. Assist in Good Agricultural Practice policies.

Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a workers ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. All workers will be subject to a two day introductory period during which the employer will evaluate workers' performance of required tasks. Employer reserves the right to terminate a worker if the employer reasonably finds worker's performance during the introductory period to be unacceptable. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason. All terms and conditions included in the job order will apply equally to all workers, both U.S. workers and H-2A workers, employed in the occupation described in this job order.

Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a workers Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time.

Special Requirements

Two months of farm work experience required. Perform prolonged bending, stooping, reaching, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting, carrying and loading up to 60 lbs. Work in extremely hot, cold and/or wet weather.
