Workers may use compact landscaping machinery such as skid steers in the approximately 60–80 hp class (e.g., Bobcat S450, John Deere 314G, or equivalent) to transport landscape materials including soil, rock, mulch, bark mulch, and sod. Workers may also use compact mini-excavators and compact track-hoe-style excavators in the approximately 8,000–10,000 lb operating-weight class (e.g., Kubota U35-4, Bobcat E35, or equivalent) to dig planting holes and shallow irrigation trenches approximately 12–24 inches deep. Workers may also operate compact utility loaders in the approximately 24–25 hp class (e.g., Toro Dingo TX1000, Bobcat MT100, or equivalent) for transporting landscape materials described above, walk-behind trenchers (e.g., Toro, Ditch Witch models, or equivalent) for shallow irrigation trenching, sod cutters for cutting sod, and light plate compactors and jumping-jack compactors for light landscape material compaction. Use of this equipment is incidental and performed only as needed to support the primary hand-labor landscaping duties described.

Workers will landscape or maintain grounds of properties using hand tools, power tools, or equipment. Workers typically perform a variety of task which may include planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler installation, seeding, mulching, sod laying, and installation of mortarless segmental concrete masonry wall units. All work is performed outdoors on the ground level by hand using hand tools (such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes) or power tools (such as trimmers, blowers, hand mowers, and hand saws) and may also include using landscape machinery including (but not limited to) skid steers, mini excavators, track hoes, and ride-on mowers.
