Laborers participate in all phases of construction and site preparation under the supervision of company supervisors. Work includes clearing and preparing sites, loading, carrying, and staging materials, as well as performing manual tasks required for foundation, framing, and overall building progress. Projects include commercial and institutional buildings such as offices, schools, manufacturing facilities, and retail structures located throughout South Dakota.
Laborers handle and move building materials, such as lumber, insulation, fasteners, and other components. They load, unload, and transport materials to designated work areas, and maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites. They dig, shovel, rake, level, and compact soil by hand; measure and mark layout lines; and position materials for structural assembly. Laborers may set up and remove temporary scaffolding, ladders, barriers, or work platforms following company safety procedures. They keep pathways clear, remove debris, and perform daily cleanup to maintain safe working conditions throughout each project.
Construction laborers use standard hand and light power tools such as hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, tape measures, levels, utility knives, drills, circular saws, reciprocating saws, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, and other basic hand tools commonly used in general construction work. Work is performed outdoors and indoors depending on project stage and may involve exposure to typical construction-site dust, dirt, and noise. Employees follow all company safety policies and wear required protective equipment including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and high-visibility vests. All work is performed under the supervision of JDH Construction foremen or site supervisors at construction projects located throughout South Dakota.
