This position is for a seasonal Landscaper employed by Landscape Garden Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The worker performs manual outdoor labor in the residential and commercial landscape maintenance industry. This position does not include snow or tree climbing. All duties are performed at ground level only. No ladders, lifts, or climbing are used.
The worker will prepare planting beds by hand-weeding, removing debris, raking, and leveling soil. They will plant annuals, perennials, ornamental grasses, and shrubs no taller than 5 feet using hand tools such as shovels, trowels, and spades. Mulch, soil, or decorative rock is loaded into a wheelbarrow and spread by rake or hand around the planting beds. No large trees are installed or trimmed. Any light pruning of shrubs or bushes is done only from the ground using handheld pruning shears, hedge trimmers, or loppers. No tree trimming or arborist duties are performed.
Turf maintenance includes mowing grass with push or riding mowers and trimming edges using handheld string trimmers. The worker will use gas or battery blowers to clean up clippings and leaves. Watering of plants is done with garden hoses or handheld sprinklers. The employee does not work with blueprints, architectural drawings, or heavy construction equipment.
There is no snow removal work of any kind. The seasonal work period does not include winter months. The employee will not operate snowblowers or plows, nor shovel or treat ice/snow surfaces.
The worker uses basic landscape tools such as rakes, shovels, hoes, trowels, pruning shears, leaf blowers, string trimmers, and lawn mowers. All equipment is provided by the employer and training is provided on the safe and proper use of all tools.
The employee works outdoors at ground level in landscaped areas such as lawns, gardens, and flower beds located at homes, businesses, or institutions. This position falls within the landscape and groundskeeping services industry (NAICS Code: 561730 – Landscaping Services). Work is performed under the direction of a foreman or supervisor, and no prior experience or education is required.

Job Summary:
The Landscape Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic and functional aspects of various properties' landscapes, gardens, and grounds. This role includes planting, mowing, watering, fertilizing, pruning, and overall landscape maintenance to ensure the grounds remain attractive, healthy, and well-groomed.

Beneficiaries' key responsibilities include mowing, cutting, and trimming lawns using hand or power tools. They also plant, water, fertilize, weed, and mulch flower beds, trees, shrubs, and lawns. They prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges to maintain desired shapes and sizes. They remove debris, leaves, and litter from the grounds and dispose of them appropriately. Maintain pathways, driveways, and walkways, ensuring they are clean and safe.

Equipment operation and maintenance include operating and maintaining landscaping equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, edgers, leaf blowers, and other tools. Routine maintenance ensures that equipment and tools are in good working condition.

Irrigation and Watering include setting up, adjusting, and monitoring irrigation systems to ensure proper watering schedules and coverage.
Manually water plants and lawns as needed.

Lawn maintenance includes seasonal planting and preparation, including aerating, seeding, and fertilizing lawns.

Safety and Compliance: All safety guidelines and procedures must be followed while performing tasks.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal landscaping and grounds maintenance regulations.

Physical Requirements: The beneficiaries must be able to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods. The beneficiary must also be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Special Requirements

Applicants must have at least three months of experience in basic landscaping commercial and residential landscaping techniques. Applicants must be able to push, pull, carry, and lift at least 50 lbs.
