Job description
Cattle receiving: Unload cattle implementing low-stress animal handling techniques; Place newly arrived cattle in strategically assigned receiving pens; Perform arrival animal health evaluation; Provide feed, water, bedding and other accommodations as needed.
Cattle Feeding: Feedtruck Operation; Feed delivery to bunk using computerized ration feeding system; Bunk blowout/cleaning and watertank care and cleaning; Heavy Equipment Operation (Loader and Scraper) for pen care.
Disease control and prevention: Perform animal health evaluation and make product selection; Administer modified live and/or killed vaccines; Administer oral, topical and/or injectable parasiticides; Administer metaphylactic treatment; Proper placement of implants; Document name of product, route of administration, dose, site of administration, date, etc.; Maintain precise individual and group records.
Health evaluation: Promote cattle health daily by low-stress animal handling; Evaluate individual and group animal health daily; Implement cattle acclimation practices; Implement cattle exercise practices; Make timely detection of cattle in need of health treatment.
Health treatment: Make observational animal health evaluation of cattle to determine the type of health issue; respiratory, lameness, metabolic, neurologic, fractures, etc.; Perform lung auscultation; Obtain precise rectal temperature; Lift affected limbs properly to evaluate for sore or toe abscesses, arthritis, septic joints, digital dermatitis, foot rot, etc.; Evaluate cattle for temperatures, acidosis, bacterial infections, etc.; Assist calving cases. Assist animals in case of dystocia. Manage and implement post calving treatment protocols.
