Job description

Minimum Requirements
• Valid CDL Class A license (must remain current)
• Minimum 12 months verifiable driving experience (Class A) with heavy tractor trailer trucks
• Must be 21 years of age
• Must pass employer road test
• Must have a safe driving record / MVR
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Must pass: Background screening; Pre-employment drug test (at employer's expense); Road test administered by a qualified GDF driver/instructor.
• Must maintain a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Med Card)
• Must be able to speak and read English proficiently, understand and obey road signs, fill out reports, communicate with Transportation Manager, and personnel at retail locations, etc.

Key Responsibilities
• Safely operate tractor/trailer in compliance with all DOT/FMCSA regulations
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and log required items in the ELD
• Deliver product grown on farm to retail garden centers and stage carts as directed by the store
• Unload rolling nursery racks using an electric lift gate
• Obtain signed/stamped Bill of Lading and return paperwork daily
• Pick up and track empty GDF carts when available
• Maintain professional communication with store personnel, merchandisers, and dispatch
• Report incidents, delays, or mechanical issues to dispatch/manager immediately

Schedule
• Typically 6 days/week during peak season (Mon-Sun)
• Work hours may be 11 hours of drive and 14 hours on duty per day with minimum FMCSA time off requirements.
• Early start times common (local routes often 3:00–4:00 AM), end times can be anywhere from 2:00pm-5:00pm.
• Saturday work may be required, but another day will be offered as the worker's day of rest.

DOT / FMCSA Compliance Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
All drivers must comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including but not limited to:
• Maintain a valid CDL and DOT Med Card at all times
• Participate in FMCSA Clearinghouse checks: Pre-employment; Annual updates (as required)
• Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections for tractor/trailer
• Record inspections and required documentation in the ELD system
• Report mechanical concerns immediately to Dispatch/Manager and record DVIR in ELD
• Operate equipment safely and professionally in compliance with: Hours of Service (HOS) requirements; All FMCSA safety standards and applicable state laws

Work schedule will potentially range from 66-84 hours per week with additional hours throughout the year depending on weather, and customer orders. Schedules will fluctuate throughout the day and season. Workers must be able to speak English proficiently, understand road signs, communicate with Transportation Manager, and personnel at retail locations, etc.
