Farm Hand

Job description

Manually plant, cultivate, and harvest field crops. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops; applying pesticides; or cleaning, grading, sorting, packing, and loading harvested products. Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops. May construct trellises, repair fences and farm buildings, or participate in irrigation activities. May repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment.

The work day may begin / end earlier or later on any given day and evening. Typical workweek is Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. and every other Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Potential nights and weekends required depending on the weather.
