Job description

Workers will help manage and control recent PRRS outbreaks by safely and humanely removing hogs from affected locations. They will transport both live and deceased hogs from impacted areas using pickup trucks with gooseneck trailers as well as semi-trucks. Employees will ensure that all animals are transferred and disposed of properly in accordance with established biosecurity standards. They will also perform comprehensive cleaning and sanitation of hog housing facilities, equipment, and surrounding areas to remove potential sources of contamination.

While conducting cleaning activities, workers will strictly follow recommended biosecurity procedures to prevent the spread of the PRRS virus. They will also haul feed between farms using semi-trucks while adhering to strict biosecurity practices designed to protect uninfected hog populations. In addition, workers will assist with receiving and unloading incoming hog shipments and will help maintain proper health and biosecurity protocols for newly delivered animals.

Employees will monitor the condition and well-being of newly arrived hogs and immediately report any signs of illness, unusual behavior, or other abnormalities to farm management. Close coordination with farm supervisors and other team members will be necessary to support the effective management and containment of the PRRS virus. See ETA 790 Addendum for additional details.

Special Requirements

Three (3) months of experience operating full-size semi-tractors is required. A Commercial Drivers License or foreign equivalent is required. Workers will be terminated if they are deemed unable to safely operate heavy farm equipment. Must be able to follow detailed biosecurity protocol as well as follow safety protocols and work together to maintain a safe working environment. Post-employment drug test is paid for by the employer when applicable for safety purposes. Workers must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds for 75 yards.
