Job description
Work under this contract will consist of thinning, weeding (using a long-handled hoe) and hoeing fields and harvesting various rows of crop vegetables such as green beans.
All work must be performed in a manner that exhibits Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and the utmost food safety at all times.
Irrigating crops, setting and removing sprinklers, running wheel lines, driving equipment, operating pivots, flood irrigating, moving portable sprinklers, and installing drip tape.
Workers will set up, reposition, and remove sprinkler irrigation systems on farms. Work consists of lifting and carrying sprinkler pipes from a trailer and positioning them on the farm block (a specified area), by connecting them to one another to provide proper irrigation to crops. Sprinklers will be removed and placed back on to trailer following seed germination (sprouting).
Thinning: Workers walk in uneven furrows. Under the direction of the field supervisor, field workers look for the specified gap between seeds. Using a long-handled hoe, they thin out any excess crop/seeds and/or weed on the seed line and leave the desired product and gap on the field. The worker cleans the lot for any unwanted weeds on the beds and seed lines and takes it out of the field as instructed by the field supervisor.
Special Requirements
We require one month of recent and verifiable experience within the past two years of agricultural experience working in diversified crops, handling manual and mechanical tasks, including agricultural field work. This position requires a minimum of one month for the employee to get a full understanding of the job and responsibilities. Must be able to understand work & safety instructions in English or Spanish, the languages spoken and written in the workplace. Be able to lift up to 45 lbs.
