Job description
We are seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals for our Tomato crops. This is a seasonal job and if hired, you are expected to complete the full contract period.
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. The agricultural job includes duties associated with planting and harvesting tomatoes. It also includes making decisions based on size, color, and maturity in accordance with prescribed standards. Workers must be careful when carrying out their work duties on the farm and be aware of not damaging vegetables. Workers must comply with all safety rules according to the instructions of their supervisors and all agricultural work operations must comply with the standards and specifications given by the employer. They will be responsible for the classification in the field and the discarding of bad quality, rotten, and/or over-ripe products. Workers will gently load the good quality products into containers, taking care to avoid damage or bruises.
Tomato Planting: The workers will ride on a mechanical transplanter, removing tomato transplants from trays and placing those plants in slowly rotating cups to be planted by machine. Workers will feed transplant trays to each person on transplanter ensuring that transplants are in good condition and water them when necessary. Workers will also walk behind machine and fill in any gaps left by the machine.
Tomato Harvesting: Workers are assigned a row or series of rows and are required to select and choose products according to criteria described and demonstrated by managers, such as size, color, and maturity. They will be responsible for the leveling and discarding of the table of poor-quality products, rotten, or over mature. Workers can carry a full container that weighs approximately (50) fifty pounds and load them into a field container or load them into a trailer.
General Maintenance: The workers will be responsible for the general maintenance of the garden. They will remove debris from the ground like sticks, hoses, stones, straw, etc. They will be responsible for the elimination of old and unproductive trees and plants. They should take care not to damage or destroy other trees and plants or properties in the area.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be 18 years or older. Employer may conduct criminal background checks on all new applicants for employment at employers expense.
Applicants need to be familiar with agricultural machinery & safety of (and harm it can do to themselves or others, as well as work in agricultural fields and have some knowledge of food safety. Also should understand the seriousness of working in extreme climates especially heat. Job is physically demanding, requiring attention to detail, the ability to work effectively as part of a team and adaptability to varying work & extreme climate environments. Applicants must have the physical ability to repeatedly walk, stank, climb, sit, stoop, bend, push, pull all while being aware of the task and others around them. Workers must not have any physical limitations that would prevent them from performing duties of job, with or without reasonable accommodation. There is a lifting requirement of up to 50lbs.
