Job description
Work under this contract will consist of performing various processes of harvesting row crop vegetables such as iceberg lettuce, romaine hearts lettuce, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, and bunching items, both organic and conventional, strawberries and general farm labor. Work may be done on the ground and / or with the use of a harvesting machine where workers may place product in the cartons while walking behind or mounted on the machine. Specific tasks include preparing fields, harvesting the product by hand, loading the product onto trucks, machine drivers, tractor drivers, field cleanup, and miscellaneous work customarily conducted on the farm. Some
workers may carry and assemble empty boxes.
Work is performed outdoors in open fields and will involve exposure to sun, wind, mud, dust, heat, cold, and other elements of the normal field environment. Temperatures can range from 46 degrees F to over 95 degrees F during the period of employment. Workers should come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for the work and working conditions described.
This work may entail exposure to plant pollens, insects and noxious plants, and to fields and plant materials which have been treated with insect and/or disease control sprays. The employer will comply with all worker protection standards and re-entry restrictions applicable to pesticides and other chemicals used in fields. Workers are also required to comply with all such standards and re-entry time frames.
Workers must crouch, bend, and reach, and lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds in the course of
performing required activities. Workers must listen to, understand and follow simple instructions of crew leaders and supervisors.
Workers may be subject to mandatory drug testing if involved in a reportable accident or upon reasonable suspicion.
