Job description

Crop: Watermelon

Workers will be expected to perform all of the following duties and roles: "Cutters" will cut watermelons, left and hand it to the "pitcher." Pitchers will carry watermelon and hand it off to the "packer." Packers will take the watermelon and pack it into a bin on the truck in the field. Workers must be able to lift 50 lbs and will be exposed to repetitive movements, bending and stooping for long periods, extensive walking, and extreme temperatures. Workers will weed using long-handled hoes. Workers will perform duties such as transplanting, runner cutting, plant thinning, ranch maintenance, setup and movement of irrigation equipment, make repairs to irrigation lines, pulling plastic, pulling of drip tape, cleaning of old and new vegetative growth on plant bed. Plant bed will be classified as medium or high according to the amount of runners and new/ old vegetative growth present during performing work tasks.

Hours listed in Section A.6 are the anticipated hours to be worked. The employer may offer additional work hours or these hours could increase or decrease based on weather conditions, crop delay, pests or disease, crop yield, available labor, and or productivity. Use of electronic devices during work hours is restricted to emergencies only.

Special Requirements

2 months experience in watermelon harvest required.
