Job description

Field Walkers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time.

Field Walker is responsible for assisting the Farm Manager and supporting other farm workers by ensuring they have the work equipment necessary to perform their jobs. The Field Walker may assist in monitoring the work of other farm workers in harvesting the crops and performing other general farm activities as directed by the Farm Manager.

Under the direction of the Farm Manager, the Field Walker will walk through the rows to ensure there is no fruit left unharvested and assist other farm workers in identifying which fruit should be harvested pursuant to the quality and quantity guidelines given by the Farm Manager.

Under the direction of the Farm Manager, Field Walker helps ensure food safety requirements are met, ensures that the crew has enough packaging material, and will deliver additional materials to the crew as needed. The Field Walker may assist with driving tractors for field preparation and ensure that the workers have the required tools to perform their job. May be selected to do safety walk throughs in farms to identify any hazards as part of the injury and illness prevention program

Transports workers from employer-provided housing to the farms, from farm to farm and to get groceries in a 14-passenger van. While operating a company vehicle during the period of employment the driver must be able to obtain or possess valid driver’s license, and the person is able to be insurable under the company policy.

Additional tasks: Helps communicate the daily work plan as directed by the Farm Manager. Help ensure other farm workers take their meal breaks. Maintains work area clean and free of objects that may cause accidents. Returns the trailer to the yard at the end of the day. Clean up trash and excess material and prepare the trailer for the next day. Assist with daily attendance records. Ensures clean and fresh water are always available.

Operates Equipment: Inspects equipment such as bathroom trailers, farm vehicles, first aid kits and water containers are in safe and operable conditions. Ensure that all employees wear the proper work attire to avoid work-related accidents or food safety violations. Operates tractor or truck to move trailer as necessary during workday. Use of level board. Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools. Follow and adhere to all personal and equipment safety requirements, to include but not limit the use of personal protective equipment. Discing, rolling, and cultivating. Irrigation of strawberry farms by turning on water pumps.

May be assigned to load agricultural products into a farm truck and drive it to the storage facility that is between 1 mile to a maximum of 4 miles from the farm.

Irrigation and Fumigation: Responsible for following instructions from the Ranch Manager on how, when and what to spray on the crop. Responsible for following instructions on when and how to irrigate the assigned farm. Inform employees of pesticide application and follows proper protocol to avoid having them come in contact with pesticides. Use of pesticides and herbicides as per farm manager instructions. Assist with applying fertilizers and pesticides by hand and by tractor.

Basic Farm Machinery Repairs: Assist with basic farm machinery repairs such as farm implements and lawn mowers. Adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify the farm manager when machinery malfunctions.

Overhead Farm Maintenance: Lay plastic for bedding. Assist with pest control. Cleanup fields. Turing on pumps and repairing irrigation lines during a freezing period.

Special Requirements

The employer will request a criminal background check at the employer's expense. The first 7 working (business) days of employment are considered as an introductory period as set forth in the Company Employee Handbook. This will be time to learn and understand tasks involved in the job position. Employee must be able to obtain or possess a Drivers License will be reimbursed for their Drivers License up to $600 USD, when the employer is presented a receipt. Employer uses E-Verify.

The employer requires 6-month verifiable agricultural experience. Workers will sign an arbitration agreement and will be subject to a progressive discipline policy. The employee will adhere to the progressive discipline policy as outlined in the Employee Handbook. All employees are required to sign an arbitration agreement. Employees may also be selected to conduct safety walk-throughs on farms to identify potential hazards as part of the companys injury and illness prevention program.
