Job description
Feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies. Herd livestock to pastures for
grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures. Examine animals to detect illness, injury, or
disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain. Provide medical
treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations, or arrange for veterinarians to
provide more extensive treatment. Mark livestock to identify ownership and grade, using
brands, tags, paint, or tattoos. Maintain heated watering system. Maintain cattle equipment,
cattle buildings, cattle pens, cattle yards, and cattle fences. Move livestock from one location to
another. Clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels,
water hoses, or pumps. Mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions. Shift
animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food. Patrol
grazing lands on horseback or using all-terrain vehicles. Spray livestock with disinfectants and
insecticides, or dip or bathe animals. Snow removal as needed. Drive pick-up truck to town for
cattle supplies on occasion. Remove ice formed in water. No CDL Required and no commercial truck driving required. Confine livestock in stalls. Farming with: Beef Cattle
Special Requirements
Minimum of 2 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Employer requires drug screen post hire at employers expense due to the liability of operating equipment. Employer requires criminal background check post-hire at employers' expense due to the presence of children on the farm and expensive tools and equipment. Failure to pass drug screen and/or criminal background check will result in termination of employment. Lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. The worker will be exposed to extreme temperatures. Workers must have positive verifiable experience relevant to the job and be capable of performing physically demanding tasks. Workers must be able to speak English. Employees must adhere to strict biosecurity, company policies, and food safety guidelines, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
