Job description

Perform manual labor associated with the planting, cultivating, and harvesting of carrots. Plant and transplant carrot seedlings using mechanical transplanters by placing seedlings into planting equipment and ensuring proper placement, depth, and orientation in the field. Walk behind planting equipment to monitor and verify correct planting. Perform field preparation duties including shoveling, hauling, and soil preparation. Cultivate crops through weeding, thinning, and other field maintenance activities. Harvest carrots by hand or using tools and equipment, and place harvested product into containers for transport. Load and unload carrots and other materials onto and from field transportation and equipment. Grade, sort, and classify carrots according to size, color, shape, and quality standards; remove defective or foreign materials. Pack carrots into containers, tie, label, and stack products onto pallets or into boxes according to specifications. Operate conveyor systems and assist with automated packing processes, including monitoring, loading materials, and ensuring proper packaging. Close, seal, and stack filled boxes and prepare new containers for continued packing. Record packing and production information as required. Clean, pack, and load harvested products and place produce into designated storage or cooling areas. Inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure compliance with packing and food safety standards. Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures. Work is performed outdoors and in packing environments in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Work requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and repetitive movements, as well as lifting and carrying up to 70 pounds. Workers may be assigned different work shifts throughout the work week. Workers may be offered more hours but will not be required to work more than the hours specified in the job order or on the workers Sabbath or Federal Holidays. All work will be conducted on employer’s client farm locations and is thus work is being conducted on a farm.

Special Requirements

Must pass a post-employment, post-incident drug testing, and reasonable suspicion drug testing paid by employer and applied equally to all workers, U.S. and foreign/H-2A. Applicants must complete an employment application. Forklift certificate required for any Forklift Operator. Must pass preemployment criminal background check. Since the workers will be living in employer provided housing, it is imperative that they have both a clean background and drug test for the safety of the other workers. Violent crimes or those involving weapons would hinder the employers ability to ensure a safe environment.
Workers must be available to work any 36 hour shift within the employers standard operating hours.
1st shift: M-F 7am-1:30pm, 5 hour shift on Saturdays ( 35 hours weekly)
2nd shift: M-F 2pm-10:30pm, 5 hour shift on Saturdays
3rd shift: M-F 11pm-7:30am, 5 hour shift on Saturdays
No work on Sundays. Hours and need might extended or be cut for day depending on weather and need.
