Farmworker/laborer

Job description

FARM LABORER: Worker will be required to complete the following activities as directed by supervisor: maintain varieties of ornamental trees and shrubs, corn, pumpkins, and soybeans; plant, transplant and harvest nursery stock; prepare soil, screen soil and millings, fields and tree blocks for planting; tree block maintenance, including grass mowing, tree trimming, weed whipping, and applying fertilizers and herbicides if applicable under the direction of supervisor; dig and remove planted ornamental trees/plants from field; load and unload trees and supplies; maintain farm buildings, fences, and other farm structures; lifting up to 50 lbs or 75 lbs in a team; general maintenance and cleanup of farm, fields and farm equipment, including removing debris, rocks and other trash on the farm, weed control by hand and other methods; cutting grass; scraping old trees; pruning; staking; irrigation installation and maintenance; equipment maintenance; drive and operate skid-steer, utility vehicle, tractors and loaders on farm property only; If worker is eligible to drive under Michigan law, worker may drive employer provided vehicle to and from worksites and to other locations as directed by their supervisor.

Pay will be hourly.

Other duties assigned under this order will be consistent under Bureau of Labor Statistics Standard Occupational Classification: Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery and Greenhouse Workers (45-2092)

Special Requirements

Experience Requirement: 2 month(s) verifiable experience in commercial agriculture required. Applicants must furnish job references from employers of the last 5 years establishing acceptable prior experience.

Job requires worker to complete tasks in general care, maintenance, and production of field planted nursery stock of trees and shrubs, corn, pumpkins, and soybean. Employer will provide instructions and training on specific job duties.

Drug testing done at employer's expense and notutilized as preemployment tool.

Season Commitment: Job offered requires worker be available for work for entire employment period.
