Job description

Van Drivers: Drive company vans, CalVans, and/or company pickup trucks to transport workers. A commercial driver's license is not required for these types of vehicles.
• Pick up and drop off workers from their housing to various field sites, and other sites as needed according to appointments, schedules, or requests by supervisor.
• Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
• Follow relevant safety regulations and state laws governing vehicle operation and ensure that passengers follow safety regulations. Adherence to safety standards and legal requirements for vehicle operation and agricultural practices is mandatory.
• Check the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order.
• Perform minor vehicle repairs, such as cleaning spark plugs, or take vehicles to mechanics for servicing.
• Test vehicle equipment, such as lights, brakes, horns and windshield wipers, to ensure proper operation.
• Notify supervisor of vehicle problems.
• Perform routine vehicle maintenance, such as regulating tire pressure and adding gasoline, oil, and water. Vehicle maintenance also includes cleaning and washing the interior and exterior of the vehicles as needed.
• Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage driven, or fuel consumed.
• Compensation includes driving time, checking the condition of the vehicle, performing minor vehicle repairs, testing vehicle equipment, performing vehicle maintenance, preparing and submitting reports, and related activities.

Crew Leader
Reports directly to the supervisor and manages seasonal workers during harvesting.
• Oversee inventory and material orders, ensuring product quality and packing standards are met.
• Direct and monitor harvesting activities, assisting the supervisor with pre-harvest preparations and audits.
• Observe and listen to machinery operations to detect equipment malfunctions.
• Operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors.
• Adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions.
• Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors using bolts and hand tools.
• Maintain workers’ production and attendance by scanning employee QR codes.
• Ensure workers have adequate drinking water and ice in portable drinking water containers, disposable drinking cups, shade, portable toilets, water for handwashing, paper towels, and hand soap.
• Must also maintain portable water containers by washing them daily.
• Schedule rest breaks and lunches according to state requirements and document on time sheets. Must also record accurate hours worked for the workers.
• Manage the employee time clock to ensure hours worked are recorded correctly.
• Report time clock issues or hours worked discrepancies to appropriate personnel.
• Ensure rest and meal breaks are taken on time and report any issues to appropriate personnel.

Special Requirements

Candidates must have at least three (3) months of verifiable experience within the last two (2) years as a crew leader, van driver, and equipment operator and in agriculture specifically related to Bell Peppers and Corn, in order to prevent crop damage and personal injury. Work will be performed under variable weather conditions, and all duties must be carried out in a manner that consistently demonstrates Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and adherence to the highest food safety standards.

Workers are required to attend a mandatory orientation, for which time will be compensated.

Workers must be able to understand English or Spanish, the languages spoken and written in the workplace, in order to follow work and safety instructions.
