Job description

We raise beef cattle and hay in western Kentucky and maintain approximately 350 mother cows. In addition to producing our own hay, we also grow a small amount of alfalfa hay for sale. Our operation includes a commercial cow herd that calves in December and January, along with a smaller herd of approximately 35 registered Angus cows that calve in the fall. Our production cycle begins in December with calving and winter feeding, which continues through February. Breeding takes place in March, followed by processing cows and calves in May before turning them out to pasture for summer grazing. In August, cattle are gathered and calves are weaned during late August and early September. Calves are then fed through November until marketed, after which cows are moved back to calving pastures in late November and early December to begin the cycle again. Employees assist with all aspects of maintaining and operating a beef cattle and hay farm, including feeding hay, grain, and silage; processing cattle in handling facilities; gathering and moving livestock; hauling cattle using pickup trucks and stock trailers; monitoring animal health and well-being; operating tractors and other farm equipment; pulling trailers; maintaining and building fences; and maintaining machinery, pastures, and hay fields. Additional duties include feeding and watering livestock, herding cattle between pastures and facilities, examining animals for illness or injury, assisting with medical treatment and vaccinations, identifying livestock with tags or markings, segregating animals by weight and condition, cleaning pens and equipment, mixing feed and medications, assisting with calving and livestock reproduction, operating ATVs and trucks, maintaining operational and production records, transporting animals and equipment, spraying livestock for pest control, grooming and handling cattle, and performing routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, buildings, fences, and agricultural facilities. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer
