Job description
Fall and winter weather create a distinct and recurring need for additional labor that is tied to cold, wind, snow, ice, frozen water systems, winter manure storage, snow removal, and cold-weather animal care. This annual and predictable winter-weather pattern requires labor levels far above those necessary for ordinary ongoing operations and demonstrates a seasonal need tied to a certain time of year under 20 CFR 655.103(d). Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties found in SOC Code 45-2093 Farm & Ranch Animals such as: Milking parlor help because cold stressed cows require more attentive handling and longer milking routines; Increase bedding frequency and volume to stay dry and insulated from frozen surfaces; Push up feed, refresh it, and deliver it more frequently; Maintain, monitor, inspect, perform preventative measures, and adjust plans based on cold conditions such as: Adjusting curtains, windbreaks, ventilation, doors, dairy equipment, and other shelter systems to protect cattle; Ensure water lines, waterers, tanks, hoses, valves, and hydrants don't freeze; Thaw, repair, protect, and monitor water access for cows; Workers must clear snow from feed alleys, feed piles, cow lanes, barn entrances, loading areas, calf areas, and working facilities; Remove ice buildup and apply salt and sand or other traction material where needed; Maintain safe footing for both livestock and workers inside buildings and all entrances
Special Requirements
Two (2) months of recent and verifiable experience required for the job duties listed. Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Once hired, worker may be required to take a random drug test at no cost to the worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment.
