Job description

Workers will operate ginning equipment, including but not limited to dryers, cleaners, gin stands, lint cleaners, bale presses including recording weight of bale & seed, bale hoisters, skid steer loaders, forklifts and skid steers, and cotton module feeders. Workers will check seed rolls and clearing tags, tag bales, assist gin operator with repairing equipment, cleaning blockages, cleaning lint filters, refilling supplies, sweeping floors, removing trash buildup, and picking up cotton on module yard. Workers load cotton module to feeder, un-tarp modules, roll up and store module tarps, move bales from dock to warehouse. May operate mote press, secure wires to mote bales, handle cotton samples at press, operate cotton trash bale press, handle, and store cotton trash bales. The operator must be able to effectively and efficiently pick up/put down modules and be able to load them onto the module feeder in the plant without problem and in a timely manner. Worker is responsible for proper disposal/recycling of seed cotton, cottonseed, and lint cotton. This employee is responsible for smooth operation of the bale press, communication with ginner on bale cuts, re-strapping any broken straps, ensuring bag is properly on the bale, sealed, proper id tag applied, bale sample is properly taken and packaged, all necessary supplies kept above a minimum threshold, bale tags gathered/prepared/used in sequence, and all relevant data for that bale properly logged. Data logging includes contamination detection and quality-control responsibilities, inventory recording. Basic computer skills needed. Worker will verify operation numbers to meet targets and report downtime. Workers should not have a fear of heights and may climb ladders up to 70 feet. Assist with general maintenance of all gin machinery and equipment as the ginning season ramp up begins and as the ginning process ends for the operation.
General housekeeping and cleaning of gin and warehouse and any other duties or responsibilities as directed by the Gin Superintendent or Head Ginner (shift leader), i.e. but not limited to repairing module truck chains or bearings and loading module tarps for delivery. Workers may drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers. Duties include but not limited to sweeping/cleaning, helping unchoke equipment, using air to blow down and keep key pieces of equipment clean, be able to operate skid steer and tractor, raking cotton off storage yard, assisting with repairs as needed, rolling tarps, folding and baling plastic, helping load and unload cotton seed, assisting during shipping and receiving activities, operate simple machinery with minimal controls, take and process cotton samples.
During peak ginning season, workers may be expected to work seven (7) twelve (12) hour shifts. The employer will designate workers for ginning and logistics tasks.

Special Requirements

Must able to lift & carry 50lbs to shoulder height repetitively through the workday. Workers may be required to take random, post accident, and/or upon suspicion drug test, post hire at no cost to worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment. Must have legal authority to work in the US. Must have two months positive verifiable prior experience in job offered. No smoking or tobacco use of any kind will be permitted in the gin or warehouse. Employer reserves the right to discharge any employee found smoking or in possession of smoking materials including cigarettes, cigars, snuff, chewing tobacco, pipe tobacco, electronic cigarettes or any other smoking paraphernalia.
