Job description
Deploy, haul, and reset lobster and stone crab traps in designated offshore fishing areas using vessel equipment and manual labor. Remove catch from traps and measure to ensure compliance with legal size requirements. Connect accessories such as floats, weights, ropes, and buoys to traps and lines. Load and unload traps and catch by hand or using hoisting equipment. Sort, pack, and store catch aboard the vessel using ice and proper handling procedures. Wash and clean decks and vessel equipment using brushes, detergents, and water. Assist in monitoring navigational and fish-finding equipment during offshore operations. Job duties are performed aboard a commercial fishing vessel during offshore operations. On-land duties are limited to pier-side loading and unloading, and vessel preparation between trips.
Special Requirements
No education required. Minimum 12 months experience as Commercial fishing. Stand throughout the shift. Use
of: Trap handling and fishing equipment, such as hydraulic winch, lobster and stone crab traps, ice storage containers, deck brushes, and navigational instruments. Basic English skills. Must be able to lift and carry weights sufficient to move traps, catch, and fishing equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks. Must be able to handle equipment at both deck level and overhead rigging height. Duties are performed primarily on board a commercial fishing vessel. Stand throughout the shift. 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 4:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Schedule may vary and can include evenings, weekends, or holidays, as needed. Employer will rely on workers own representations and observations to assess if worker meets the lifting, standing, and other physical ability requirements stated here.
