Primary Agricultural Duties – Field Preparation, Thinning and Weeding: Workers will perform field preparation and crop-care duties as assigned and under the direction of supervisors. Duties include lining up in designated rows and using long-handled hoes and manual methods to thin crops to proper spacing and remove weeds adjacent to plants without damaging the crop. Workers will receive instruction in proper crop spacing, hoeing methods, weed removal, crop protection, and safety procedures. Thinning and weeding are primary agricultural duties of the position.
Primary Agricultural Duties – Harvesting and Packing: Workers will perform hand cutting, harvesting, trimming, and packing of leafy commodities using employer-provided knives and harvesting tools. Duties include bending, cutting, trimming product according to employer quality specifications, and placing harvested heads or leaves into bags, boxes, RPCs, or onto Styrofoam trays. For machine-crew operations, workers will work as members of a harvesting crew along harvest machinery equipped with conveyor systems. Duties may include cutting and trimming product, packing containers according to product specifications, closing containers, placing containers on conveyor belts, and performing other basic crew duties such as closing, stocking, or moving pallets using employer-provided manual pallet jacks or hand trucks, as instructed by supervisors. No prior experience with the employer’s harvesting machinery, specific packing methods, or production procedures is required. The employer will provide the necessary instruction and hands-on training.
General Farm Maintenance and Other Activities: When primary work is temporarily unavailable due to weather conditions, crop conditions, operational needs, or other lawful business reasons, workers may be assigned miscellaneous incidental duties directly related to the agricultural operation. These duties will not replace or substantially reduce the availability of primary agricultural work. Such duties may include general cleanup of the worksite, farm property, and agricultural structures; weeding, trimming, digging, cutting, and removal of weeds, vines, debris, and trash from fields and fence lines; routine installation and removal of plastic mulch and irrigation drip tape; and basic irrigation inspection, maintenance, and adjustments as instructed by supervisors. Field sanitation activities may include cleaning, disinfecting, and performing routine sanitation and upkeep of harvest buckets, bins, trailers, hand tools, and similar agricultural equipment. Workers may assist with cleaning and routine daily upkeep of farm vehicles and agricultural equipment, including removing dirt and debris and reporting maintenance needs.
