Job description
All job duties are closely and directly related to the production of livestock during the cold winter months. Perform any combination of the following tasks while attending to livestock: apply medications to cuts and bruises; assist in moving livestock to appropriate pens or pastures; assist in the maintenance of tools, equipment and handling facilities necessary to production; assist livestock manager in monitoring pen inventories; assist with loading and unloading livestock according to shipping schedules; assist with semen testing breeding males; break ice over frozen water sources; clean and disinfect livestock corrals, pens and handling facilities; clean stalls by removing soiled bedding and manure,replace with fresh bedding; conduct year-end inventory of livestock health supplies (e.g., dewormers, vaccines, halters, medical kits); restock mobile trailers and barns to prepare for calving and early spring turnout; disinfect water troughs, feeding stations, calving pens, and handling equipment according to veterinarian-approved disease prevention protocols; rotate drying areas to reduce bacterial risk; evaluate and adjust feed rations for livestock according to body condition and season of production; perform preventative maintenance on equipment such as grease and oil checks; remove snow from sheds and corrals; weigh animals and record weights.
Special Requirements
Required to: to maintain equipment and machinery to a standard established by the employer, work with and around farm machinery such as tractors, UTVs and ATVs for supplemental feeding purposes and movement of livestock, Workers receive daily supervision and on-site training (1-3 months). No independent operation of farm equipment with out supervisor approval and safety check, Work outdoors in winter temperatures.
