Job description

Perform manual tree farm labor under supervision of nursery managers at companys tree farms, designated as Agricultural Homestead properties by the State of Minnesota. Prepare crops from seed and transplant seedling crops into fields for planting. Responsible for soil preparation, irrigating, cultivating planting and harvesting of flowering trees, shrubs and bare root tree stock on tree farms. May construct trellises, repair fences and farm buildings, or participate in irrigation activities. Haul, spread and apply pesticides and fertilizer. Haul and apply water to trees and shrubs in containers. Tie, bunch, wrap and pack shrubs and trees to fill orders. Load and unload shrubs and trees on and off trucks for delivery at unanticipated customer sites in areas surrounding companys tree farms. Move containerized shrubs and trees. Dig up shrubs and trees and wrap their roots in burlap. Load product onto trucks for delivery to customers. Hoeing and pulling weeds. Fertilizers, pesticides and water that must be hauled and applied to tree stock weighs up to 100 pounds. Operate farm equipment including tractors and trailers among other equipment to perform tree farming activities. There is extensive pushing, pulling, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping up to 8 hours per day.

Special Requirements

All applicants must have at least 3 months verifiable experience working in a commercial tree farm/nursery or a commercial produce farm. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Workers must be able to bend, stoop, sit and stand on feet for long periods of time. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications, including lifting weights of 100 lbs. Must be able to work in hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
