Job description
Race Horse Groomers will feed, water, groom, bath, exercise, and care for horses and perform duties related to barn and facility upkeep, on a race horse ranch and training facility during the quarterhorse race season. Groomers will perform a variety of tasks, including the following: Feed and water horses according to schedules and feeding instructions; mix food, liquid formulas, medications, or food supplements according to instructions and prescriptions; do facility laundry and clean, organize, maintain, and disinfect animal quarters, such as pens and stables, and equipment, such as saddles and bridles; exercise horses; perform horse grooming duties, such as washing, brushing, clipping, and trimming coats, and cleaning ears and horse shoes; order, unload, and store feed and supplies; and keep records of births and care for newborns and young horses. Race Horse Groomers will assist and take direction from Race Horse Trainers. All duties will be performed on the ranch. No travel is required.
Special Requirements
Some OVERTIME and WEEKEND hours are required. Workers must be available to work Monday through Saturday, and available on Sundays on a rotating basis (approximately one Sunday every 6-8 weeks). Race Horse Groomers will work on a rotating shift schedule, 7 hours per day, 6 days per week, for a total of 42 hours per week. The first shift is from 5:00 am - 12:00 noon. The second shift is from 12:00 noon - 7:00 pm. The Sunday work day requires only one person to work each shift, and entails feeding of the animals and light cleaning duties. If a Groomer works on a Sunday, then they will receive time off on a different day during the week. Workers must be able to lift up to 80 lbs. All applicants must be able, willing, and qualified to perform the work described in this job desciption and must be available to work for the entire work period, April 5 - December 31, 2021.
