Job description
A employee will harvest and prepare corn and wheat silage then transport the silage from the field to dairy. The steps to harvesting the silage will consist of chopping the fresh corn and wheat then compacting and sealing the silage to prepare for the ensiling process. This is a four phase process including the aerobic, fermentation, stable and feed out stages. This can be broken down into ten steps. First you harvest the forage, then you wilt the forage and add a fermentable substrate at ensiling. The forage will be chopped into short lengths then compacted as tightly as possible. Then, as you complete the entire storage you must fill and seal it withing a day or two and seal the entire storage air tight. Once this process is done you load the corn and wheat silage into a semi truck and trailer that will then be transported from the field to the dairy where the cows will be fed.
Special Requirements
Harvest experience and knowledge of driving and unloading a semi trailer. Applicants must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License at the time of hire.
