Job description

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Applicants must have a minimum of 3 months verifiable experience operating 125+ horsepower farm machinery. Must be able to lift 60 lbs. on a consistent basis throughout each workday. Workers must be able to work outdoors in variable weather conditions that include hot, cold, & rain. Overtime will be paid in compliance with applicable FLSA regulations.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Workers will drive & operate cotton ginning equipment and farm equipment (tractors, forklifts & trucks) to assist in harvesting cotton, ginning cotton & performing general farm maintenance activities. Will adjust implements & equipment as necessary to ensure equipment is operating properly & at optimum performance. Will check pre-operation, monitor & maintain engine driven & mechanical equipment; i.e., check oil, coolant levels, refuel, lubricate with grease, & make adjustments as necessary & required. Drive trucks & tow trailers to haul farm related materials, supplies, & harvested crops to designated locations as directed by supervisor. May load & unload trucks & trailers by hand & or with forklift.
Equipment Operation: Workers will be required to operate equipment (in and around the cotton gin including trucks, yard tractors, necessary in the ginning of cotton & in performing general farm maintenance activities. Equipment operation will be paid at the hourly AEWR. Before any worker is required to operate a piece of equipment, the worker will be instructed in the proper & safe operation. Workers will be required to operate equipment according to instructions & in a manner that protects the operator, other workers & equipment. Repeated failure to obey operating & safety instructions may result in termination.
Cotton Gin Jobs Descriptions: All workers are expected to be mindful of safety for themselves and each other. They are expected to familiarize themselves to the workings of equipment that is new to them and take appropriate safety precautions. They are expected to wear safety equipment appropriate for each task. Equipment may include gloves, eye protection, ear-plugs , helmets, and breathing filtering masks. For safety purposes, workers are prohibited possess mobile phones or other personal devices onto the worksite during work hours.
Cotton Bale Press: Organizes wire and baling supplies; Pulls sample of bale, inserts bale tag, and keeps samples orderly; Places bale bags on bagger; Inserts bale wires and ties into the plat to tie bales; Weighs each bale and records weight; Loads bale on hand cart and carts it to the trailer; Keeps work area clean and safe.
Workers for Module Feeder: For Large (Rectangular) modules: Instructs truck driver to back up to the feeder; Operates feeder switch to load module on feeder from truck; Removes tarp from module; Folds and rolls tarps and ties them for reuse. For Round Modules: Instructs Loader Operator when ready; When round bale is in position, cuts wrap (plastic) and ensures that wrap is removed completely from bale; Rolls up removed plastic and makes it ready for baling.
Workers for General Yard Duties: Clean yard of excess debris and cotton; Replace module covers as needed when wind has removed them; Observe Cyclone Bank and piping to catch any leaking air ducts, cyclones, or fans; If machinery clogs, assist in clean out and clean up; Observe flow of cotton seed into the seed house and, when necessary , adjust or add pipe to redirect flow; Cleans works area clean and daily using air blowers, brooms, etc.
Workers to assist the Ginner: Assist Ginner in various ways as instructed during the ginning process; Watches cotton flow, helps ensure gins are working properly; Helps unclog any stop-ups and watch for any problems that may occur in the cleaning , feeding , and ginning process;
