Job description

Two temporary position openings as winter range cattle hand. $1727.75 per month + free food and housing. On call 24/7. Three Quarter time guarantee. Work tools, supplies and equipment will be provided at no cost to the worker. Transportation & subsistence expenses to worksite provided by employer or paid by employer upon completion of 50% of the work contract. Must be able to ride horses and/or A TV in order to move the livestock safely. Must have 6 months experience as a range cattle hand (winter}. Must be able to lift 75 pounds. Performs a combination of duties on the open range as well as on the ranch: protect pregnant cows from harsh winter conditions. Move pregnant cows to areas designated by rancher using methods to avoid undue stress on cows preventing hypothermia, abortion & death. Move cows as a pace and distance sufficient to ensure they have enough water available & forage during daylight hours to arrive as unmarked perimeters of range area designated by rancher. Break ice to assure sufficient waster for all cattle. Assist with supplemental feeding of hay(when weather limits use of range forage} Move cows to ranch when range conditions prevent natural foraging. Report to rancher water, forage & weather conditions as well as wind, storm & changes in the health conditions of cows. Administer minor medical care to sick/injured pregnant cows without causing undue stress when dealing with mother cows. Must be able to ride and handle horses in the movement of livestock while assuring the safety of the worker, co-workers. livestock and horses. Maintain healthy hooves on horses for the duration of the winter. Assist with later stages of breaking & trailing horses. Assist with the maintenance of meadow lands & the repair of fences. Employee will work outdoors in all types of weather, including blizzards, high winds, extreme cold as well as predators. Must be willing to work under climatic conditions common to Colorado. Workers must be willing to perform all duties according to the rancher's requirements during the contract period. Majority of total workdays (51%) will be on the range beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or the advertised contractual first date of need, whichever is later, and ending on the expiration date specified in the work contract or departure of the workers from the USA.

Special Requirements

The employer will provide workers compensation coverage for injury and disease arising out of and in the course of the workers employment and no cost to the worker and will be in effect not later than the beginning date of this job order.
The employer will provide at no cost to worker, a cell phone as an effective means of communicating with persons capable of responding to the workers need in case of an emergency. This devise may be used for emergency or business use only.
This may be substituted for other means if the conditions warrant. Worker will be directed and controlled by the ranch operator and/or designated foreman. However, workers are often required to work alone for long periods without supervision and to perform the required work reliably and properly. Six months prior experience as a Winter Range Livestock Worker and one satisfactory reference is required.
