Job description

Worker must possess the physical strength and endurance (ability to continue or last) to repeat the harvest process though out the workday, working quickly and skillfully to perform activities assigned during that activity. Workers must work at a sustained (continuing for an extended period of time without interruption), vigorous pace (quick and steady) and make bona fide efforts (made in earnest intent) to work efficiently (performing or functions in the best possible manner with the least waste of time and effort) and consistently (same way for a long time) that are reasonable under the climatic and other working conditions, Workers may not leave trash, or other discarded items in work areas or vehicles but must dispose of such items in provided receptacles. Workers must wash hands with soap and water after all bathroom and meal breaks. Allergies to varieties of ragweed, goldenrod, insecticides, related agricultural chemicals, etc., may affect worker’s ability to perform the work described herein.
Worker Duties based on work assignment. Daily individual work assignments, crew assignments, and location of work, will be made by and at the sole discretion of the farm manger and/or farm supervisor as the needs of the farming operation dictate. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties in any given day and/or different tasks on different days. Workers will be expected to perform any of the listed duties and work on any crop as assigned by the worker's supervisor.
ASSISTANT GROWER POSITION SUMMARY
Under direct supervision works with the growing, care and maintenance of the company's horticultural products that are produced for wholesale or retail sales. Applies technical procedures, timing and metering devices that control frequency, amount, and type of nutrient applications; regulate humidity, ventilation, temperature and amount of light; and dispense fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides. Monitors crop development and the removal of substandard plants to maintain quality standards.
CORE EXPECTATIONS
Assists the Head Grower and Growers in planning for growing activities that are consistent with planned production schedules.
Under direct supervision prepare space required for planned production.
Assists in monitoring growing conditions such as humidity, moisture and temperature and follows cultivation procedures to ensure conformance with quality control standards.
On a regular basis inspects crop to ascertain conditions such as leaf texture, bloom size and the existence of pests or disease; removing substandard or diseased plants to maintain quality standards.
Applies fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides as directed.
Assists in the development of growing procedures for new species in product line and new cultivation techniques.
Provides information needed for maintaining records of growing techniques and technologies.
Maintain a current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies.
Assists the Head Grower and growing team to perform other duties as assigned.
Other core expectations will be defined by the Head Grower.

Special Requirements

All applicants must have at least 3 months experience working in a horticulture industry or related field. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time, balance, reach and grasp while climbing on a step stool/ladder, sit/stand for an extended amount of time, and the ability to lifting products from floor properly. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
