Job description

We need seasonal help from February until December since that is the busiest time on our farm. It is our crop season plus the very intensive period for working cattle. Our season starts February when we must prepare equipment for planting season. This includes repairs and maintenance on equipment to get it ready. We also must prepare corrals for calving which starts in March. Preparing corrals include cleaning and removing snow putting down straw, fixing and repairing corrals, etc so that it is ready when calving starts. In March we confine our cattle in corrals for calving. During the calving period they need intensive care to assist with birthing, watering, and feeding daily. This is a very labor-intensive process. For the first few months the calves and cows need daily care. In the spring we start with our crop operation as well. We prepare and till fields, plant and seed corn, soybeans, sorghum, and rye. Employee will be operating farm equipment including tractors, planters, grain carts, mowers, etc to complete these duties. During the summer employee will need to assist with applying fertilizer and spraying the acres as required. We also work on getting hay, silage, and corn ready. During the summer we put our cows and calves in pastures, and they need to be check daily and provided with minerals. Repair and build fences. In July, the bulls are put with the cows. In late August we start with harvesting which takes several months to complete. After harvest is completed, we need employees to haul the harvested crops from fields to storage locations. In November, we pull the cattle form the pasture and they are confined for the winter months. Employee will complete general farm duties as directed.

Did you know that... most J-1 workers who work more than 40 hours a week

(and in some states, more than 8 hours a day), can get paid "time and a half?"
