Job description

The General Farm Ranch Hand position will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of livestock and ranch maintenance. Duties will include the following: check physical characteristics of cows and bulls, observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care, examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain to determine delivery time, assist in delivery and night calving, apply or administer medications/vaccines; maintain water tanks and pipelines/shovel snow/break ice; clean corrals/shovel manure twice daily to keep horse runs clean; place mineral blocks, assist with branding; confine livestock in stalls; clean/disinfect livestock corrals/stalls/sheds, dock, castrate, brand, clip/tag and clamp livestock, herd livestock to various pastures, sort cattle on foot and/or ride horse and/or 4-wheeler to move cows; knowledge of packing and using pack horse on steep terrain to build fence/dig holes by hand; welding experience required for pipe fences; and required to spray weeds with backpack in rough terrain. Worker will be required to operate equipment including a skid steer with attachments; perform general maintenance on equipment; pick rocks and pull weeds by hand and overall maintenance of grounds, corrals and ranch facilities and farm acreage; and load and unload trucks and horse trailer. Worker must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision. The job entails working with farm animals and machinery, outdoors in all types of weather (extreme heat, wind and cold) and occasional exposure to herding hazards such as cattle stampedes, kicking/bucking horses, poisonous snakes and predators. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. Long/odd hours may be required with night shifts during calving. No smoking or alcohol use allowed on ranch property. Driving is required. Worker is required to obtain a Drivers' License.

Special Requirements

Avg. 9 hrs/day, 54 hrs./wk.; Mon.-Sat. Night shifts during calving (Mar. 15 - May 15). Sunday - worker may be requested to work on Sunday but not obligated to do so.
