Job description
On-call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week and holidays if necessary. Hourly schedule 7am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm. Workers will spend more than 50% of workdays in the work contract period in the herding of production of livestock on the range. Ranch landscaping, maintenance and repair assistance with ongoing removal of non-indigenous invasive brush in an effort to maintain native biodiversity. Operate and service ranch tractors, vehicles and equipment used on the ranch to haul livestock, hay bales, remove non-indigenous brush, and shred pastures. Service and clean equipment on the 200-acre farm to plow fields, broadcast seeds, and remove water mineral build up in irrigation heads on pivot irrigation. Maintain and repair all ranch and farm structures, exteriors, and interiors of barns to store vehicles and hay, the ranch tool shop, all water well and water pump enclosures, and water troughs. Maintain and repair nearly 6,000 acres of fences to maintain pastures for mother cows, calves, and brangus bulls. Maintain 4,200 acres of 9’ wildlife high fence within the 6,000 acres for the ranch, and ranch native white tail deer to maintain recommended herd numbers, for the Managed Land Deer Permitting Program, in collaboration with the Texas Parks and Wildlife. This requires upkeep of deer feeders, protein feeders, and deer blinds used to meet annual harvest numbers. Assist with Brangus cow calf operation with an average herd of 400 head. Exercise and maintain 15 ranch horses, including farrier work to shoe horses when needed.
