Job description

There are general conditions of employment, general job specifications and individual requirements that are specific to each job duty:

GENERAL CONDITIONS: Field work begins at assigned time shortly after daylight. Work may be performed during light rain and in high humidity and in freezing or high heat temperatures. The worker may be required to work when crops are wet with dew/rain and should have suitable clothing for variable weather conditions. Worker will lift or load up to 60lbs.

The Worker may never ride on agricultural equipment not designed for work related riding purposes or any other non-passenger intended equipment unless instructed and authorized by the employer or supervisor to do so. All work related injuries must be immediately reported to the crew leader, foreman, or supervisor. Workers compensation claims may be presented to any medical provider, through your employer or state agency if applicable.

Full Growing Season Commitment: The worker agrees to be available for work and perform the assigned work for the assigned employer through the full period of employment 02/28/2022 through 06/10/2022, in accordance with sections A.3 and A.4 of the ETA 790.

Light Duty: Workers restricted to light duty work by their physician may be offered light duty jobs in accordance with State Law and/or agency guidance.

The Employer attests that all workers will be properly trained in the Worker Protections Standard (WPS) by qualified WPS trainers who have completed an EPA-approved Train-the-Trainer course pursuant to the Oregon Department of Agriculture.

Job Duties

Nursery Stock: Workers will prepare and plant nursery stock from plugs,bareroot stock and/or liners: Unpacks stock to prepare for planting. Fills pots with soil. Cleans/splits/divides/ prunes rootstocks and divisions to prepare them for planting. Plants material into pots on an assembly line or individual process. Tags newly planted material.

Vegetables/Fruit: Plants, cultivates, harvests and packs vegetables and fruit. Works on planter, plants roots, seeds, and bulbs. Workers may spread or remove plastic or other groundcovering and drip tape from fields. Weeds, thins, plants. Transplants plants, riding on transplanter or by hand. May set poles and wires for vine plants. Workers must also stake/tie plants. Workers will trellis and prune plants. Picks, cuts, lifts, or pulls crops to harvest them. Care must be taken to prevent damaging produce and plants.

Workers will perform put-down: Transfer or relocate plants, placing them on carts and wagons and then in organized blocks on greenhouse benches or hangers, in polyhuts, or on weedmat on the ground. Ensure plants are in the correct location and are properly signed.

Workers will assist with procedures that encourage plant health and maintain appearance: Pull weeds from containers; prune plants; space plants to allow for proper growth; apply fertilizer; hand water when needed.

Workers will harvest sedum cuttings using a sickle bar cutter, mix cuttings and spread over plastic containers for green roofs. Workers will plant containerized and bare root plants into plastic containers for green roofs. Workers will weed and mow plastic containers. Workers will fill and place plastic containers of soil in the growing beds. Workers will load finished plastic containers for green roofs onto shipping containers. Workers will move product from conveyor belt onto trays

Special Requirements

4e) Must be able to lift and/or load 60lbs.
4g) Work may take place when temperatures are below freezing and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
4h) May require extensive pulling and/or pushing of tools, wheel barrows, fruit containers, etc.
4i) May require worker to sit and/or walk for extensive periods of time transporting
4j) Workers will be required to stoop and/or bend over while performing nursery labor such as setting plants, maintenance, pulling shrub order etc. 4k) There will be repetitive movements while performing most of the farm labor duties, for example setting plants, maintenance, pulling shrub order
