Job description

Drives and operates farm machines such as tractors, sprayers, and harvesters to perform specified farm activities like plant, cultivate, harvest, store crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat; Hitches soil conditioning implement, such as plow, cultivator, harrow to tractor, and operates tractor and towed implement to furrow and cultivate soil; Drives tractor and operates designated towed machine, such as seed drill or planter, to plant, fertilize crops; Prepares harvesting machine such as combine by adjusting speeds of cutters, blowers, and conveyors and height of cutting head or depth of digging blades according to type, height, weight, and condition of crop being harvested, and contour of terrain; Drives self-propelled harvesting machine to cut, thresh, clean crops; Moves switches, pulls levers, and turns knobs and wheels to activate and regulate mechanisms; Refuels engine, lubricates machine parts, and monitors machine operations to ensure optimum performance; Drives truck or tractor with trailer attached to gather and transport harvested crops in field and move to storage; Unload grain onto conveyor to storage bins or elevators; Tends sprinkler system that irrigates land; Starts gasoline engine and adjusts controls of sprinkler system across field or pushes on switch that activates sprinkler system, and starts pump that forces water through system to irrigate crops; Observes sprinklers to ensure uniform distribution of water to all areas; drive farm vehicle to obtain inputs for growing crops; minor daily and incidental upkeep to equipment and worksite.
