Job description
Job duties include the operation of large farm equipment including, but not limited to, tractors with various implements, sprayers, combines, and semi-trucks to prepare land and plant, irrigate, fertilize, cultivate, harvest, and transport crops to elevator or storage facility. Equipment may operate using GPS guidance systems. Job duties will also include performing repair and maintenance on field equipment when required; using hand tools in fields to perform maintenance and repair as well as remove undesirable plants and various objects from fields; working with irrigation equipment including poly pipe, pivots, wells motors as well as maintaining drainage channels and ditches; maintaining farm shop areas; cleaning equipment and shop areas; mowing grass around fields and around farm shop locations; walking rice, soybean and corn fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops; draining excess water from fields; opening drainage overfill pipes; and walk each field to check for standing water; building, constructing and maintaining levees, installing and removing levy gates and putting in spillways; working in and around grain bins by operating augers, transferring grain between bins, monitoring grain moisture levels, shoveling grain, sweeping grain, and leveling bins. Daily work duties may vary. Increase or bonus may be possible depending on experience or merit.
Special Requirements
Workers must have, or be able to obtain, a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Workers will be exposed to LA summer temperatures that could exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit and periods when pushing, pulling, sitting, walking, or performing repetitive movements are required. Basic English literacy and math skills are required.
