Job description
The primary goal of the Field Laborer/Nursery Worker is to plant starter nursery stock on our 200-acre farm and to grow them to a large caliper size for future use in our retail, wholesale, and municipal market sales. The process includes the following operations:
• Preparation: Preparing the farm soil conditions for planting.
• Planting: The process of root pruning, planting the starter trees, shrubs, and perennials
• Maintaining: Irrigating, fertilizing, weeding, pruning, staking, dividing, and cultivating; and
• Harvesting: Digging the trees, shrubs, and perennials for the final sales market.
Worker will operate tractors and tractor-drawn machinery and self-propelled machinery to grow and harvest nursery stock, plants and shrubs. Harvest full-grown crops requiring digging, balling and heavy lifting (50 lbs. overhead). Work in all weather conditions. 3 months experience with agricultural crop rotation and harvesting using both hand digging and mechanical methods. Must be able to operate mid-sized tractor, skid steer, plows, hand pruners and shovels.
