Job description

TEMPORARY FARMWORKERS. Applicants must be able, willing & qualified to perform work described in this JO/Ad & must be available for the entire period specified. Transport provided. Salem, Roanoke County, VA. Possible daily/weekly hours: 7:30A-4:30P; 40-48/hours. $13.15/hr. 1st week wage guarantee: $631.20. Employer will comply w/applicable Federal, State, local laws pertaining to OT. Duties: Feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies. Herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to trucks, or other enclosures. Examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain. Provide minor medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations, or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment. Drive trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals or to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops used for animal feed. Inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, pens, yards, and fences. Repair farm buildings, greenhouses, and other structures. Regulate greenhouse conditions, and indoor and outdoor irrigation systems. Move equipment, poultry, or livestock from one location to another, manually or using trucks or carts. Clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps. Mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions. Shift animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food. Order food for animals, and arrange for its delivery. Inform farmers or farm managers of progress of crops and livestock. Involves extensive, repetitious walking, standing, stooping, bending, loading/unloading up to approx. 50-60 lbs. & manual/motorized tool usage all day. Possible exposure to weather, temps above 90F w. direct sunlight for extended periods; hours may fluctuate (+/-); possible downtimes and/or extended hours. Dependable: Fulfill obligations. Attn. to Detail: Complete work tasks. Self-Control: Display a good natured, cooperative attitude; maintain composure; keep emotions in check, control anger, avoid aggressive behavior. Employer guarantees ¾ workdays of contract. Tools provided at no cost to worker. If applicable, transport, subsistence expenses provided upon 50% of worked contract. Employer-provided housing available to any worker who cannot reasonably return to residence daily. Must show proof of legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Special Requirements

TERMINATIONS: The employer may terminate the worker with notification to the Employment Service if the worker: (a) refuses without justified cause to perform work for which the worker was recruited and hired; (b) commits serious acts of misconduct. In the event of termination for medical reasons occurring after arrival on the job, or occurring as a result of employment, or in the event of termination resulting from an Act of God, the employer will pay or provide reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence to the place of recruitment. Additionally, the employer will reimburse worker for reasonable costs of transportation and subsistence incurred by the worker to get to the place of employment.
