Field Worker

Job description

Field worker is required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of rice, almonds, walnuts, and other row crops. General farm work will include the following responsibilites: maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements, tractors, and equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, irrigate and harvest crops. Employees are expected to follow training protocols to promote safe and effective work practices. Irrigation duties will include the following: flood irrigate using pipes from a ditch to channel water down furrows, shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments to appropriately channel water, mix and apply proper solutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches, and spillways and make minor repairs to metal, concrete, and wooden frameworks in pipe and ditch and pump. Flush lines and clan micro sprinkler heads in walnut orchard. Weeding around drip line and checking for leaks on drip lines in orchard. Irrigating rice fields through concrete boxes and draining fields. Cleaning and maintaining farm buildings, structures, equipment and work areas. Perform maintenance activities such as weeding, pruning and staking. Cleaning out bins and warehouse storage. Harvest duties will include operating equipment and transporting almonds in nut carts. Rice harvest duties include assisting in the grain storage facilities. Employees will be trained in all manners of safety including lockout tagout and other safety protections before beginning work. All PPE will be required and provided by employer. Housekeeping and maintenance of the grain facility as well as filling the storage will be the bulk of this part of the employment.

Special Requirements

A valid drivers license may be required as some driving on highways is possible. However, if the worker does not have a license (pre-hire) the employer will pay for the cost (post-hire) and provide assistance if necessary. Workers may be submitted to a drug screen post hire at no expense to the worker. Criminal background check will be processed only for qualified applicants. The criminal background check is required of any eligible worker post-hire. The worker will live on site near families with young children and this is required of all workers on the farm because of these living conditions. The background check cost is paid by the employer. Employees will be required to review and sign employee handbook.
