Job description

Plant, cultivate, irrigate, weed, harvest, grade and pack bell peppers, hot peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, summer squash, winter squash, watermelon, cabbage, tobacco, zucchini, lemons, and prune orange trees by hand or machine.
Use hand tools shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, machetes, pruning hooks, shears and knives. Operate and ride on equipment to manually plant seeds or plants into the ground and cover with dirt. Walk behind the machine making sure all holes are filled and covered. Operate tractors to harvest crops and pull trailer in field during harvest.
Walk behind tractor pulling trailer with orange trees, place tree in predug hole, and cover with dirt using a shovel. Prune orange trees according to supervisor’s instruction. String peppers, cucumbers, and eggplant.
Harvest developed product from plants on assigned row by hand, or using a knife, making sure that plant is picked clean of all crops of correct size and maturity, or as instructed by supervisor. Workers must use care when harvesting not to damage product. Grade, sort, or classify agricultural products by size, weight, color and condition. Package harvested products into bins, bags, boxes, plastic containers and crates. Stack boxes onto pallets, transport vehicles or trailers. Load and unload harvested products and materials.
Pull weeds, prune crop, maintain fields and perform irrigation activities. Install and remove items required in plasticulture. Install and remove stakes, wire, netting or string. Perform farm and field sanitation duties. Clean and maintain packing facility, fields, structures, grounds, and equipment.
Workers who apply for and obtain an FLC or FLC employee certificate of registration with driving authorized by the USDOL Wage and Hour Division during the employment period may transport workers and may be offered additional work hours. Assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies.
Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker’s ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason.
Employer attests that it has sent (or will promptly send) original surety bond to CNPC.
Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker’s Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time.

There will be two shifts ocurring for the entire contract. The first shift will begin at 6:30am and end at 2:00pm, Monday-Friday, and will begin at 6:00am and end at 11:00am on Saturday. The second shift will begin at 7:00am and end at 2:30pm, Monday-Friday, and will begin at 7:00am and end at 12:00pm on Saturday.
Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer's control. These periods can occur anytime throughout the season. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties in any given day and different tasks on different days.

TERMINATION. All workers will be subject to a two day introductory period, during which the employer will evaluate workers' performance of required tasks. Employer reserves the right to terminate a worker at the conclusion of the introductory period if the worker’s performance fails to satisfy the employer’s reasonable expectations, or is otherwise unacceptable.

Special Requirements

One month of verifiable farmwork experience required. Perform prolonged walking, bending, sitting, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying 60 lbs. repeatedly. Perform repetitive movements. Work outside in inclement weather, including cold, hot, and/or wet weather for extensive periods of time.
